About

Barinaga Ranch is a 75-acres family owned and operated sheep farm located in Marin County California. Owned by a husband and wife, Barinaga is a sheep ranch that raises and keeps animals in the ancient Basque shepherding tradition. The sheep are raised for yarn in a sustainable, environmental friendly way. In addition to careful consideration of their environmental stewardship and carbon reduction efforts, the yarn products certified “Transitional Climate Beneficial” by Fibershed, acknowledging that they are made from the fiber of animals grazed on managed landscapes in a system transitioning to Carbon Farming. The farm also began growing plants that are used for their natural dyeing properties. The wool is hand dyed using plant based dyes all produced at Barinaga Ranch. With a focus on sustainability and community enrichment, Barinaga Ranch offers lamb meat for sale in addition to their yarn. If you’re interested in starting your own sheep farm, Barinaga also sells lambs for breeding stock. Email them directly to inquire about purchasing meat or part of an animal and visit their online shop to find their cozy yarns.
